Department For Aging and Rehabilitative Services
- DARS Pre-ETS
DARS works with students, their families, their schools and community partners to enrich transition planning and support students with gaining knowledge and experiences necessary so they may make informed decisions about their future. Topics covered through Pre-employment transition services include:
- career exploration
- work-based learning experiences
- exploration of education and training programs
- self-advocacy
- workplace readiness training
- social and independent living skills training
The Lynchburg Area Center for Independent Living (LACIL) has been bringing smiles to people with disabilities throughout the region since 1998 serving over 7,000 people. LACIL serves persons with all types of disabilities.
As a consumer-directed and private nonprofit charitable organization, LACIL encourages and supports people with disabilities who desire to live happily within their community—empowering them with the services and tools for independence, including:

Building and maintaining healthy family environments

Featured Post Grad Programs
Wilson Workforce (WWRC)
Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center provides people with disabilities comprehensive, individualized services to realize personal independence through employment. They offer a wide range of training programs, supported work readiness, student internship programs, and vocational counseling along the path to employment. WWRC offers these services in a residential campus setting to allow consumers to gain independent living skills that many desire to transition back to their home community. Once a client completes their vocational program(s) at WWRC, we assist the consumer and DARS with their job search and job placement.

Longwood Life
Longwood LIFE is a two-year non-degree post-secondary certificate day program for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Students within the age range of 18-25 will gain the skills for independent living in a college community setting with age-appropriate peers throughout this day program.
Students are given the opportunity during this program to build a portfolio that will document experiences and progress towards the program and personal goals.
